The Society of Marple Artists (SMA) is a well-established art society, founded in 1968 – almost 60 years ago. We meet in the Marple Methodist Church Hall every Thursday at 7.30pm for two hours. Non-members are welcome for a small fee, and prospective members can have a couple of free taster sessions.

Our Programme typically works in a 4-week rotation, with each 4-week block featuring expert demonstrations, posed models (clothed or life), a themed still life session and “own work” nights, sometimes featuring group projects. You can see an at-a-glance three-month calendar, plus details and photos from previous sessions. Sometimes we go on art-related trips.

The Annual Exhibition is our major event of the year, held at the Church Hall over the 3rd weekend in May, where members’ original art works can be enjoyed and purchased – paintings (both framed and un-framed), sculptures, plus hand-made and printed cards, and a ‘Public Choice’ winner. Dates for 2026 are 15-17 May.
