Phil Craven gave us a fascinating demo of creating a watercolour landscape – this one of a stretch of the Watkin Path on Snowdon. Some points to think about – his palette (in an old school dinner plate!) only had a few colours – French ultramarine, burnt sienna, Hooper’s green – and all the colours on the paper were mixed from them. His initial drawing was in HB pencil so as to be soft but not too dirty. For the sky, he wetted the paper before adding paint – but not for the other areas. You can check out lots of his work at PhilCravenArt.
