A lovely, relaxed demonstration from Elise Van Meerssche, creating a papier maché baby owl. Elise made the process look so easy, but you just know that there had been lots of trial and error to get to this. Her technique involves making rough shapes of dry crumpled paper, wrapping these with lashings of masking tape, coating with flour glue-soaked strips of paper, and painting with watercolours.

While she worked, she also entertained us with details of her training and research as a marine biologist, working in many areas of the world (Brittany, Iceland, Bermuda, Alaska, California, Chile…) before settling in… Stockport!

Her work has made her very environmentally aware and she is known as The Jolly Upcycler. She also runs workshops: a flyer for this is attached too. More information about Elise at: www.thejollyupcycler.com and https://www.facebook.com/share/1EEkuNJ1M2
