An absorbing demonstration last night by our own John Gardner, whose work focusses on the human body in action. He talked us through examples of age, movement and expression, before drawing three scenes in quick succession suggested by the audience: men fighting, a girl slipping on a banana skin and girls hurdling. He finished with an example of start to finish progression of a story: sketch, portrait view, landscape view, and then the aftermath. Fascinating stuff watching how quickly John can draw, but also understanding how much effort he puts in to get to a picture he is happy with.

The story here is that the lady in red’s husband sees an old mate and slaps him on the shoulder, causing him to tip his pint down the back of said lady, who is not amused.
