A fascinating demonstration last night by Rob Wilson, showing his unique style of mixed media landscape art. His work celebrates the character of Britain’s countryside and cityscapes and last night his inspiration was St James’ Church Taxal, near Whaley Bridge where he has his art gallery. It was extraordinary to watch the speed at which Rob worked and engrossing to see every step of the process he has developed and clearly loves. He was also so generous sharing his techniques and knowledge: it was lovely to see so many people enjoying his demonstration and conversation.
And here’s a summary of Rob’s process for those who might have blinked… 
He goes through a number of detailed stages: sketch and colour on canvas using Inktense Watercolour Pencils; activate with watered glue; attach dress patterns with more glue; add acrylic high and lowlights with card; add acrylic ink and spread with water spray and brush; lay on collage (this normally takes 6-8 hours!); add some watercolour to join areas together; then use a dry brush technique with acrylic to bring out textures. Finally, Rob will add his unique finishing touch by sewing over the picture…
