An inspiring talk by Julia Marwood on the artist Adolphe Valette: The Manchester Impressionist (1876-1942). Julia has great knowledge of Valette’s life and his body of work, from an etching in France when he was 13, via Paris to Manchester, where he taught and produced his most acclaimed paintings of urban Manchester, and finally back to France. Glorious descriptions of his art by Julia, pulling out fascinating details, really brought them to life for everyone in the room. A special evening for all.

Some of Valette’s original work can be seen at the Manchester Art Gallery, if you’d like to fully appreciate it. And further homework – check out another Manchester Impressionist – Wynford Dewhurst.
