I joined SMA in 2022 after I retired. I sold my first painting later the following year when I submitted ‘The Japanese Garden’ to HOME in Manchester for an exhibition showcasing north west artists. Just knowing someone else had enjoyed my work as much as I had enjoyed painting it, was enough to keep me painting.
At SMA we we have monthly demonstrations from other artists, and it is through their tips and advice I am learning how art materials work, how to apply them, and how to compose a picture that hopefully draws the viewer in for a second look. The process is very addictive, and I am my own worst critic at making sure I have created something I’m happy with. I work in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media.

Commissioned paintings: The first two paintings both in acrylic were requested for wedding gifts, and both are of the venues for the wedding ceremony. The dragonfly is now in Wales.

The Sunflowers watercolour is from my sketchbook, painted on a recent holiday to France (Bordeaux region) where in August there are fields stretching for miles full of sunflowers.
