Having worked in IT for my whole career, with no artistic creativity in sight, I took up art more than 50 years after I last touched a paintbrush, apart from decorating… I now experiment with many mediums across a wide variety of subjects, working in a realistic style. Lately though, I seem to be settling on watercolour as my go-to medium and I also love using soft pastels and charcoal for certain pieces. Contact via val_2883 at hotmail.co.uk.

I’ve found I love drawing animals – the detail of their fur, the directness of their gaze. I mostly use soft pastels, chalk and charcoal for these, the soft mediums seem to lend themselves to their tactile nature – even the tigers.

And drawing people is similar – the eyes have it for sure. For family photos, capturing their expression just right is key…

Bowie
Mum and Dad

I have created my own Christmas cards for the last few years, and it’s now become something of a tradition… I’ve used watercolour, acrylic and also a lino-cut.

This is my latest piece, produced in watercolour. I loved trying to capture the energy of the wave as it curled and crashed.

Power of the Sea

These are all pictures I am so proud of – ones that I have exhibited and lovely people I don’t even know have liked them enough to actually buy them…
