Membership runs from 1st October each year and costs £70 pa. including an exhibition fee. If you join in the middle of the year, your first fee would be just for the months remaining leading up to October i.e. joined in June = 4 months membership fee to pay.

Juniors: We encourage Junior members (aged 16 and 17 on 1st October) and have a reduced membership fee for Juniors. We expect a current adult member to be responsible for a Junior.

Anyone thinking of joining the Society is welcome to attend two taster sessions before making their decision. You can join in any of our sessions, unless specifically marked ‘Members only’ on our Calendar.

Guests : Anyone interested in coming along on an ad-hoc basis to sketch/paint at one of our model nights, or come to a demonstration evening where we have a professional artist visit, is very welcome for a small fee. Details are on our Calendar.

Members are entitled to display their work for sale in the annual Exhibition – currently, up to 8 paintings, plus browsers, cards, and sculptures. All members are expected to volunteer for various support ‘jobs’ whilst the exhibition is on. And, of course, members who want to can have their work displayed in a Member Gallery on this website.

Throughout the year we have various outings. Some to art galleries, some requiring a coach (always good fun). In recent years we have visited The Barbara Hepworth Gallery; David Hockney exhibition at Saltaire, Bradford; Keswick art exhibition and some trips where we car share to see local exhibitions and galleries. When the weather is good you may spot a few of us out and about sketching in and around Marple.

We have no art level requirements: if you failed Art GCSE and haven’t picked up a pencil since, that’s not a problem! It doesn’t matter where you are up to with your art journey, from beginner to experienced, all are welcome and supported by us all. We do have a few professional artists amongst us but the majority paint for pleasure. We all learn from each other, and the monthly demonstrations are often inspirational to try different subjects, techniques and mediums.

Membership Secretary is Anne Anderson – you can contact her via email, marpleartist at gmail.com, or by using our Contact Us form.
